ALACE’s doula training program is unique among all the other doula training organizations in North America for several reasons:

• ALACE’s doula training program is based on the midwifery model of care and evidence-based practices, rather than the medical model of care.

• ALACE offers the most rigorous doula training program, providing you with a solid base of knowledge about the physiology of the body and how it works during labor and birth, allowing you to know just what kind of physical support your client needs.

• ALACE’s training gives you the skills and confidence necessary to provide the emotional and psychological support your clients need. Focus is given to being a positive advocate, encouraging the woman and her birth partner(s) to find their own voice so that they will be an active participant in their experience.

• Tuition includes the entire training and certification process: the training workshop, processing your work, the exam, the certificate itself, and the first year of membership in ALACE.

• ALACE uses only a very small number of very experienced instructors who teach all of the workshops across the United States and Canada; this ensures the highest quality training with the most consistent curriculum.

• The workshop includes an introduction to physical assessments, adding an aspect of experiential learning unavailable in other training programs; these experiential exercises serve to enrich and empower all those who attend our workshops.

• ALACE has a fully staffed office, available to answer questions by phone or email and provide you with support during your doula training and in your professional work with birth.
